One misconception is that in order to get any results, you need to torture yourself on the treadmill for hours on end. Not true. Anything you can do is better than nothing. Just shoot for increasing your daily physical acclivity just a little bit. When that becomes comfortable and normal, simply add a little bit more.
The second big myth is that any one exercise is better than any other. Again, this is not true. People that love running will tell you running is the best. People who love yoga will tell you that yoga is the end all. Do whatever you feel most comfortable doing, and whatever you think you can do on a regular basis.
The third, and most dangerous myth is that more is better. If you do more, you expose yourself to injury from over training, stress, anxiety and a host of other potential problems. For most people, just ten or twenty minutes a day of anything is all you really need.
Anything that you can do on a regular basis, without killing yourself is fine. And when you combine any exercise with a sensible diet, you will be on the fast track to long term consistent weight loss.
