I wish to begin by saying that the information in this article is merely my opinion which is based on data I have read from expert authors and from the 10+ years living and eating the way I have on a daily basis. Also, with my twice a year blood work which shows zero deficiencies, I feel this information is valid. Maybe it just works for me, my genetic makeup and my body type, I can’t say for certain. But, just like smoking will certainly have an affect on each one of us with various degrees of health negatives, the green smoothie diet, I believe, definitely will affect each of us with varying degrees of health positives. Try it and see, after discussing it with your doctor of course.
The body is designed to heal itself right? Why is it that so many people are becoming and staying sick? Perhaps that statement is wrong and the body can’t heal itself naturally? No! The problem is that people a) do not provide the body with the right amount of tools, usually by way of diet, it needs to heal itself and b) we constantly bombard our body with junk that hinders the performance of the limited number of essential resources that we do give it.
I’m a big admirer of the raw food diet. The suggestion that adding heat to food over a specific temperature destroying required enzymes that are significant to digestion makes plenty of sense to me. Further, it is suggested that to get the most out of our food we should masticate it until it disappears. We have troubles handling big pieces of food. Also, I strongly believe that we can survive off of a diet of largely fruits and dark green leafy vegetables, with the occasional healthy fats. In regards to healthy fats, avocados, soaked nuts and seeds is all I consume.
My main meals every single day are composed of plenty of raw fruits and green vegetables in the form of green smoothies. Being mostly liquid, my body does a great job of assimilating the nutrients.
A giant hurdle for some people when changing diets, and a huge one for me is dealing with cravings for unhealthy foods. Just like a person that has addiction to drugs or alcohol must detoxify so they can heal, we essentially have to do the same thing. Our cells are comprised of stuff from the food that we have consumed in the past. The body generally craves much of the same unhealthy foods that contribute to the contents of each of the sick cells in our bodies. For drug detoxes, many times, sauna therapy is used to removes the drugs through perspiration. This could help eliminate the physical cravings which could allow the person a better chance of staying sober. For us, adjusting our eating habits will probably influence the elimination of toxic foods as well which can be conveniently removed in stool, perspiration and perhaps urine. But, we still might crave those foods while some of the toxins in our cells are still present.
I find that immediately after having the first drink of my green smoothie my cravings for grease, meat, salt, etc started to diminish. After I was finished drinking the smoothie, the cravings disappeared completely and I’d be content. The concern then was that the unhealthy cravings would come again as I grew hungry. So I started to make sure I was on top of it and would have another smoothie ready before the cravings would come back, or not too long after they reared their ugly heads. The cravings finally subsided for good as I became cleaner. Suddenly I started to crave greens instead!
